Finland - Learning/Teaching Event

The learning event is taking place from April 3 to 9. On their first day the pupils got to know the town and were informed on the activities awaiting them in the following days.
During the Monday activities called „The Olympic games“ the pupils developed their social skills by going through seven training grounds and getting to know their friends from other countries.
Walking on long skis in groups of five, long distance boot throwing, precise throwing, hitting the target with snowballs are only a few disciplines we got to know.

In the evening many families held a homework activity, which was cooking a national dish, considering the second project year is – food year. They were cooking Finnish meals and the pupils helped in preparations and, of course, tasting the meals. :)

On Tuesday we had new activities – marketing workshop, continuing the entrepreneurial part of the project, in which the pupils developed a presentation plan and a sales pitch for a cookbook. Working in groups the pupils made lunches for themselves in a wonderful public centre in Toivola, which they reached on foot. All the activities are promoting a healthy way of living which is of great importance in Finland, therefore most of the pupils are walking to school, even when the have several kilometers to cover to get there.

On the same day a second group attended workshops that took place in the school, where they prepared blueberry pie. The group also attended sporting events where they played hockey and other sports in the gym.

Each activity was followed by an evaluation, and for each activity great effort and preparation on behalf of the school staff can clearly be seen.
